Crafting in Post-Fordist Times, towards a Socialist Mode of Production
Presentation by Eric van Hove
Location: Zoom (Open to the public.)

Eric van Hove will discuss what craft is understood to be in industrialized nations versus how it is perceived in so-called developing nations, using the case of Morocco in particular. From there, he will reflect on the role it might play in post-Fordist times, surrounded by 3D-printing technologies and artificial intelligence. In addition, he will mention the case of a recent, large sculpture production (Us Heit) which involved master craftsmen in glass from Boda Glassbruk as well as the Mahjouba Initiative currently in development.
Eric van Hove (born in Guelma/Algeria, lives and work in Marrakesh/Morocco) is a Belgian conceptual artist. He is currently using the craft legacy as a medium to ponder the relevance of local and informal heritage in a highly globalized world economy, often initiating large multidisciplinary collaborative productions. Considered by a growing number of critics as a post-conceptualist, his recent work primarily uses craft as a medium to ponder the legacy of contemporary art and the industrial heritage of the 20th century. He is presently working on The Mahjouba Initiative, an ambitious five-year project aiming to conceive a functioning electric moped for the local African Market combining craft, 3D printing and industrial output.

This node continues on Thursday, 28 January.
