About

The 2025 Deleuze and Guattari Studies Conference will take place at Konstfack – the University of Arts, Crafts and Design.

Konstfack is Sweden’s largest university for arts, crafts and design. Since 1844, we have educated a diverse range of professionals within these fields as well as art and sloyd teachers. We conduct both artistic and scientific education/research and currently have about 1000 students enrolled on bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes, teacher training programmes and freestanding courses. Many of them come from other parts of the world, as do our teachers. Internationalisation is helping to bring about the exchange of knowledge, prepares students for the world as a future workplace and brings new friends to Konstfack in fields other than our own: Moving Boundaries is an exemplary example of this.

Materiality and ability to imagine are the main strengths at Konstfack. We study, handle, develop and relate to materials by means of daily, practical exploration. And both our education and our research are expanding our imaginations: this is a prerequisite for a more sustainable society, as information and knowledge are no longer sufficient as a force for change. We need to understand how things could be, engage with these opportunities and create new behavioural patterns in our day-to-day lives.

Our campus, more than 20,000 square metres in area, is also home to some of Europe’s best, most well-equipped workshops and an outstanding art and design library. ICT suites, wood and metal workshops, screen printing, a weaving room, textile printing, a paint shop, a graphics workshop, a photo and TV studio, a glass studio, a ceramics workshop and studios for sculpture and painting. And not forgetting a superb art and design library. We are equally proud that the QS Top University Rankings have named Konstfack the best in Sweden, third in the Nordic region, tenth best in Europe and 26th in the world.

History

The 2025 Deleuze and Guattari Studies Conference and Camp in Stockholm will be the second time this international event takes place in Sweden. The Conference and Camp have a long and rich history. The event first took place in 2008 at Cardiff University, Wales (then known as International Deleuze Studies Conference). Since then, the Conference and Camp visited numerous places around the world, including countries in Europe, the Latin America, as well as the US and Canada. There are also editions of the Conference and Camp in Asia and India. Its strong interdisciplinary profile gathers experts, researchers, artists and students to discus and exchange ideas, as well as generate new insights in the field of Deleuze and Guattari studies.

Since its establishment, the Conference and Camp have been associated with the Deleuze and Guattari Studies journal. There is also a strong academic community gathered around the journal and the Conference and Camp event in the Deleuze and Guattari Facebook group.

Like the Conference, the journal strives toward an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to the works of Deleuze and Guattari. The journal invites philosophical, literary, cultural, historical and many other approaches to diverse topics that draw their inspiration from Deleuze and Guattari’s body of work. In this way, the Conference and Camp, as well as the journal, remain true to the spirit of Deleuze and Guattari’s legacy that always resisted traditional categorisation.
